Denver Parks and Recreation is seeking a Greenhouse Horticultural Worker to assist with plant propagation, watering and general plant maintenance.


Work Hours: Sunday- Thursday (6am-2:30pm), The Team Rotates working Holidays


The City Park Greenhouse serves as Denver Parks and Recreation's horticultural core by growing and distributing landscape bedding plants, shrubs and other ornamental plants for Denver park districts and other city agencies and facilities. We propagate approximately 250,000 annuals, perennials, shrubs and stock plants. The greenhouse produces flowers for 539-550 individual beds comprising 4.7 to 5.1 total acres of park land.

Job Responsibilities
  • Performs propagation, planting, and arranging of plants; maintenance of plants, shrubs, trees, and chemical applications of pesticides and fertilizers.
  • Assists in training and scheduling the work of volunteers and seasonal help.
  • Performs semi-skilled work assisting Park Horticulturist as assigned.
  • Operates and maintains gardening and ground equipment, vehicles and machinery, including operation and maintenance of sprinkler systems.
  • Observes all common safety practices.
  • Assists in operating the environmental control in the greenhouse, etc.
  • Notifies supervisors for any failures of the heating and cooling system and equipment to continue safe and effective operation.
  • Performs exterior garden maintenance duties; planting, weeding, deadheading, fertilizing, watering. Prunes and plants shrubs and trees as needed.
  • Implements vegetation management prescriptions including, pesticide applications, assessment, and monitoring.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
Qualifications

Education Requirement:

Graduation from high school or possession of a GED Certificate.

Experience Requirement:

One year of work experience performing cultivation and care of flowers and plants.

Licensure and/or Certification:

Requires possession of a valid Colorado Driver's "R" License at the time of application.
